Our family traveled around the Western United States for several years, living in different major cities for months or seasons at a time. We were able to slot in to unique communities and pretend to be locals for a while. We made deep friendships, got to experience different city cultures, and had enough time to really get to know the ins and outs of an area.
One of our favorite places was Durango, CO. We lived right off Main Street on 4th Ave, so we were able to walk into town every day for meals or drinks or just to work in a coffee shop. We ran along the river trails and could quickly access the hiking and biking trails without even jumping in a car.
Durango was a perfect hub for so many adventures and day trips in the Southwest. We strengthened our snowboarding skills with many days on the mountains of Purgatory, Wolf Creek, and even Telluride. Pagosa Springs and their natural hot springs made for perfect relaxing memories. Silverton is a unique mountain town with a stellar drive on the Million Dollar Highway! Mesa Verde National Park opened doors to a past reality that inspired us and taught us much about early life in America. Utah was just a hop, skip and jump away as well with Moab and Canyonlands.
We were there for Snowdown, their local winter parade in February, and our family had a blast! Our kids went to classes at the Children’s Science Center and the Rec Center and made friends and learned much. Durango really was a perfect place for countless memories as a family.
The home we stayed at is available this coming winter, from October 2018 – April 2019. If you are a family with freedom to uproot, unplug, or just travel for a season, we cannot recommend this destination enough. It is also perfect for young professionals who are location independent and want to experience nature and adventure in between virtual meetings and creative work.
Here are a few details of the home and space.
